Let’s review the history of oil painting in Xiamen.
In the 1980s, South Korea art dealers made use of Chinese outstanding art talent to collect oil paintings and export to European countries. Due to the talent of Xiamen Artists, many South Korea art dealers established studios in Xiamen, employing students in Gulangyu  Academy of Fine Arts to paint, which made Xiamen become the largest oil painting production base in the world and Wu Shi Pu oil painting village became painters’ gather of settlement. Now we can still see various personal studios spread in old area of Wu Shi Pu oil painting village, you may be surprised in finding the scene of fifty or sixty painters painting at the same time.

So far, Xiamen commodity oil painting takes up one third of global production share, there are many global art dealers come to Xiamen to wholesale purchase. At present, In Europe and the United States, every three paintings has one from Xiamen, which are offered by more than ten thousands painters in Xiamen. Annual export volume of oil paintings in Xiamen exceeds 4 millions pcs, creating the total value of CNY 1 billion, with export of CNY 50 million,and supply to Da Den oil painting village CNY 30 million.
